Yes, Donald Trump scored a decisive election win. There is no denying the results and no court
challenges from the Democrats about voter fraud or a stolen election will be
forthcoming. The fact that the
Democratic team gracefully conceded didn’t come as a surprise either. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz ran a responsible
and truly presidential campaign. This
had nothing to with an ageing president bowing out at the last minute and not
enough time for Harris to develop a larger public profile. Harris challenged Americans to rise above
pettiness, name calling and the kind of fear and paranoia bandied about by
Trump and his cronies.
The Harris campaign was about substance and protecting the
rights of women and minorities, common decency and hard work. What they were up against was an ill wind
blowing through America playing with the hearts and minds of Americans; Trump
masquerading as a truth-teller, insinuating that the nation as a whole is in
trouble, a huge government conspiracy covering up the many lies and failings
from the country’s major institutions.
Trump was the exact opposite of acting presidential: belligerent,
bellicose, hateful, accusatory, bigoted and racist. His entire strategy has been based on souring
the overall mood in the nation and it has nothing to do with common sense,
facts or reason.
Trump tapped into the phenomenon called unreason. Harris didn’t lose because her message didn’t resonate with the average, intelligent American; she simply lost because a majority of voters fell for Trump’s siren song of hate and paranoia, of non-existent attacks on American values and prosperity. He ran roughshod over all the predictable targets and in doing so followed the dictator’s playbook to a T. Set the masses on fire and let reason fly out of the window. The message appealed to thousands of underachievers and losers who finally sensed an opportunity to get back at the people they hate the most; their successful neighbors, people with good jobs and incomes, professional people and those in skilled trades.
The message also appealed to a lot of middle class and
wealthy Americans who actually believe and think that their nation is in
trouble and on the verge of disaster.
Their fear is actually fact based as America as an empire is on the way
out. America’s power and influence, at
home and abroad, is on the wane and the cost of keeping it together is coming
home to roost. Unfortunately, putting a
clown in the White House will not remedy that fact; instead Bozo will be
instrumental in rushing the inevitable along.
By the time his term in office is up he will have set America ablaze
from coast to coast and from border to border.
The analogy that has been drawn up by many historians about
what happened in Nazi Germany and what Trump is about to unleash on the United
States is uncanny. Hitler was an
outright psychopath who surrounded himself with toadies and bootlickers and he
got rid of anyone who stood in his way.
Trump is a product of a highly dysfunctional father and when you draw up
his profile he follows right in the tracks of all the miscreants and dictators
who have come before him. Hell-bent on
emulating his father by acting and behaving even worse. He is a pathological liar, a fraud, a tax
evader, narcissistic, a convicted felon, a bully and a misogynist. Trump epitomizes the worst attributes in a
human being and yet he occupies once more the highest office in the land and
with a solid majority. Nobody needs a
crystal ball to see where this is headed.
It will take a miracle to turn this around.
The face of a nation is presented by what it stands for. When he started his first term as president
he actually appointed a lot of people who had experience and credibility. All of them were thrown under the proverbial
bus as soon as they leveled any criticism at the boss, immediately interpreted
as betrayal by Trump, or when his dictates weren’t followed to the letter. There is no pretending this time around. He has appointed the worst of the worst. People with no experience, no credibility and
all of them fitting the kind of mold he’s looking for. They will put up with his lies and make the
predictable excuses, putting up with his idiocy and gaffes and his insane habit
of policy making on the spot, and if needed, they will even lick his behind
after a bowel movement if that is required for staying in his good graces.
Bozo the clown and his circus have arrived in town and let
the entertainment begin. The empire is
on the way out, so why not go out with a bang.
Any psychologist knows that once a client moves beyond the point of
stupid that there is no going back.
Stupidity almost acts like a physical barrier, preventing any return to
normalcy. Stupid has a habit of digging
in its heels and it hides out in hastily dug foxholes as the bullets start
whizzing by. Society’s pendulum has once
more swung towards conflict and chaos. A
blanket of national amnesia will soon cover the land and all its citizens will
hide behind flags and silly chants.
I am not challenging Americans to rise up against my
predictions and my diagnosis of the 2024 election. In Nazi Germany the good citizens followed
suit, obediently raising their arms, standing side by side with the fanatics
and the believers. When you elect insane
leaders, their insanity becomes law. As
a writer, a student of philosophy and history I can only observe and shudder
with trepidation. An ill wind has been
blowing for quite some time and it is an ill wind that always harbors ill
tidings.
