AI AND CHATGTP ARE RUFFLING MEDIA FEATHERS
There is little or no doubt that ChatGTP as an artificial intelligence tool is the biggest plagiarist in the world. ChatGTP simply sorts and copies from print sources and material available on the internet. Some disgruntled media platforms refer to it as stealing, or at least, inappropriate borrowing. ChatGTP literally mines information as it sifts through, collates and compares through whatever material it kind find on a given subject based on the quality of the instructions and questions asked. It can do so at incredible speeds and with a level of accuracy that is absolutely astounding.
Laser-like focused machine
searches that leave the human brain behind in the dust. It can only access information that is
available on a particular subject, as well on what it can or is allowed to
access. For instance; you can’t access
something for which there is no data; if it doesn’t exist or is simply not
available! ChatGTP can only sift through
what is out there and it doesn’t deliver a personal opinion or validates an
individual’s research. What it can do is
save an average individual countless hours of tedious, boring research and
source validation. However, it will
never replace critical thought and original thinking.
ChatGTP is ruffling feathers because it lacks ownership and
oversight as to who owns and controls the information mined and used,
information that in most cases has taken writers, journalists and media
platform owners a considerable amount of time and expense to accumulate. The downside of all internet content is the
obvious fact that once something is released it becomes part of the public
domain, accessible to anyone and that includes using a tool like GhatGTP. There really is no difference whether ChatGTP
accesses information or an individual, the only real difference is speed.
If an individual or an organization insists on protecting
information or at least insists on deriving some kind of financial benefit it
can employ a system of pay if you want to play.
Some do, with varying degrees of success. They will run into stiff legal opposition if
they want to discriminate between ChatGTP and individuals accessing internet
information and how that information is used.
You would either have to challenge everybody in court or no one. Good luck with that one.
My blog for instance, once posted, becomes part of the public
domain. I have no control over who will
read it or what that individual will do with the information. I can only hope for a positive assessment,
but there are no guarantees.
In all fairness, I do think that the feathers ruffled have to do with ChatGTP itself and what it can do in the long term, leading to redundancy, as in job losses. Research previously done by humans only to be replaced by computing power and clever algorithms.
Another potential blow is to
our egos as ChatGTP and computer learning will be perceived by many as a blow
to human learning and intelligence. That
poor human brain of ours is so limited in what it can do and retain. We tire easily. We get distracted. We lack the focus and intensity of machine
learning and retention. When it comes to
speed and computing power ChatGTP has us beat hands down. Our eyes and brain, no matter how hard we
train and practice, it is still limited to one word, one sentence, one
paragraph, one page at the time. We lack
machine patience and stamina. And we’re
so slow!
None of us should lose sight of the fact that all ChatGTP accelerated learning is still machine generated. It is information, nothing more. It is people who can and will manipulate technology and information, who have the power to cheat and corrupt, to abuse and pervert. Everything we build and design can be used in either a negative or a positive manner.
Take a hard look as to what we have done to ourselves and the
planet since we left the safety of the jungle behind in exchange for living lives
as uprights with a slightly higher degree of intelligence. ChatGTP mirrors us in every aspect, the good
and the bad. Sometimes we win and
sometimes we lose. Overall we are not a
generous species that contributes to the welfare and wellbeing of planet Earth
and all the species that inhabit it.
Globally half-hearted efforts have been made to curb AI and
its uses. Token attempts. How can you legislate something that is so
readily available to anyone with a media device? Can you even imagine the nightmare of
oversight and controls if restrictions were even attempted? For instance, before you access ChatGTP you
would have to register first and declare intent? Hello nightmarish Orwellian bureaucratic
police state!
Yes, in an ideal world writers like myself, publishers and media owners, deserve to be compensated for their efforts. I don’t think going back in time is an option. Or will be attempted. It’s not going to happen. The world changes, for better or worse. Personally I have no use for anyone who tries to pawn off a ChatGTP written article, thesis, or book as their own. Shame on your ignorance. You are a disgrace! A lazy nincompoop who refuses to tax their brain.
As with everything humans do and undertake there is a bottom
line and the sad reality is that anything major humans invent gets abused. It’s that simple.
Do you think we can put the genie back in the bottle?
